Lady Gaga is inspiring fans to start a “Body Revolution” in response to media attention about her recent weight gain.
The “Judas” singer — who recently confessed to gaining 25 lbs. thanks to her father’s knack for cooking up tasty Italian cuisine — posted a picture of herself in her underwear on her website LittleMonsters.com. A caption accompanying the image revealed that Gaga has struggled with body issues since her teen years.
“Bulimia and anorexia since I was 15,” the pop star wrote.
Gaga, 26, called for fans to post their own photos celebrating their “perceived flaws.”
“Today I join the BODY REVOLUTION to inspire bravery and BREED some motherf**king COMPASSION. My mother and I created the BORN THIS WAY FOUNDATION for one reason: To inspire bravery. This profile is an extension of that dream. Be brave and celebrate with us your ‘perceived flaws,’ as society tells us. May we make our flaws famous and thus redefine the heinous. Now that the body revolution has begun, be brave and post a photo of you that celebrates your triumph over insecurities.”
Fans have responded by sharing their own photos and writing about their own body image struggles and eating disorders. Even Papa Gaga is on board with the campaign, allowing his famous daughter to post a photo of his prominent belly on the site.
“He’s proud but has lost 10lbs. and is working out to feel better, be healthy.”
Mother Monster isn’t the only celeb to get candid of late about her issues with food. On Monday, veteran newswoman Katie Couric revealed that she “wrestled” with bulimia during her years as a student at the University of Virginia.
