Kung Fu Panda has had some great success with the first 2 films in the franchise and will look to expand upon that with the third film. From the looks of it, this film will feature more emotion as well as plenty of laughs.
The animated film is presented by DreamWorks animation, the same studio that gave fans the Shrek franchise as well as Madagascar and How To Train Your Dragon, although they have been struggling with a couple of flops as of recently, most notably The Penguins of Madagascar.
With Kung Fu Panda 3 and the recent success of Home, the studio hopes to turn things around and the All-Star cast of the third film in the franchise should be enough to get just about anyone out to see it.
Kung Fu Panda 3 will see the return of Jack Black to the main role of Po, who is reunited with his biological father for the first time (Bryan Cranston), along with a slew of other big stars. The film’s supporting cast features Angelina Jolie, Dustin Hoffman, Jackie Chan, Seth Rogen, Lucy Liu, David Cross, James Hong, Randall Duk Kim, and Rebel Wilson.
The plot of the film will follow the reunited father and son duo traveling to a secret panda paradise where they meet a handful of hilarious new panda characters. However, when a supernatural villain begins defeating all of the kung fu masters, much like the previous film, Po is given the impossible task of training a village full of fun and clumsy pandas like he once was.
The first two films opened in 2008 and 2011 and each of them were nominated for Best Animated Feature at the Oscars. Whether the third film will have similar success is to be determined, but together the previous films gained roughly $1.3 billion at the worldwide box office.
Kung Fu Panda 3 is directed by Jennifer Yuh Nelson, who also directed the second film, and it was written by Jonathan Aibel and Glenn Berger. Fans can expect to see it in theaters on January 29th, 2016.
