Kim Kardashian and Body Positivity

kim-kardashian-beauty-makeup-hair-skin-01I’ve always said, “Like her or hate her, Kim Kardashian is undoubtedly influential.” Well, I’m going to amend this previous statement and say, “This is why you should give Kim more credit. Hate her not for this.”

This is why you should admire Kim, even if you hate everything else she stands for. It’s when she does things like this that I’m happy she has the platform that she has. This is why I’m happy she’s so frank about her body and shows it off. This is why she’s not a bad role model.

Body positivity.

On August 11, 2015, Kim went on a little social media spree, referencing malicious rumors that have been circulating since—well, since her last pregnancy, honestly. The rumors say she’s faking her pregnancy because she’s too slim, or she’s further along than she’s saying because she looks big. And my personal favorite is the one that claims Kim is using a surrogate that she’s just not telling anyone about! Because, you know, she’s so private about her life.

Kim has made her fame on her beauty, body, and yes, her brains, but even though she’s open with her body, it’s still inherently wrong to criticize a woman for what she does with said body. And now that Kim’s a newly-minted “out” feminist, she’s got a thing or two to say about that.

Here are her Tweets that prove she’s grown to appreciate her body and that she’s to be emulated for her body-positive attitude.

This is why I’m a fan of Kim Kardashian, because she’s not afraid to go there. She also included a heartfelt wish that all expectant mothers will have happy and healthy pregnancies and deliveries. Her outspoken tweets speak volumes about the public’s perception of her and to an extent, all women who feel pressure to conform to beauty standards. Kim’s tweets prove that no one, not even someone as virtually flawless as Kim Kardashian, is immune to feeling pressure to look perfect all the time.

Even Kim has bad days when she feels fat, or feels like she’s not pretty enough, and it’s when women in the public eye talk frankly about these issues that they come to light. It’s crazy that a celebrity has the power to make us feel differently about our own bodies, but that’s just a reality of our society. Kim is using that power for good.

She’s also commenting on the ridiculous criticism she receives from every quarter. Girl can’t even procreate without the world accusing her of some crime, and it’s clear she’s not taking it anymore. She’ll hit back the only way Kim knows how: with selfies and a smile.

And in case you were worried she’s gotten soft as a mother, she included a gorgeous nude selfie of her pregnant body where you can clearly see her growing belly and that she’s a goddess incarnate. Like all women.
