It’s a sad day for the world’s animal lovers, Kentucky Derby champion stallion Barbaro has died.

Barbaro suffered a breakdown during the 2006 Preakness and endured months of recovery and surgeries.

He was euthanized on Monday morning: “It was the right decision, it was the right thing to do. We said all along if there was a situation where it would become more difficult for him then it would be time,” says Barb’s owner Roy Jackson.
