Lindsay Lohan and Keira Knightley are set to battle it out for the lead role of romantic heroine Catherine Earnshaw in a new film adaptation of Emily Bronte’s 1847 novel Wuthering Heights.

Director John Maybury says: “I certainly wouldn’t count Keira out but it’s whether or not she wants to get back into period costume, because she’s been in a few period dramas. I don’t count Lindsay Lohan out either. I really believe in the girl and she’s coming out from the other side of her well documented problems – she just needs to be treated seriously.”

    Cathy- Lindsey Lohan
    Heathcliff- Christian Bale

Lindsey Lohan would fit perfectly as Cathy. This might seem to be an odd pick, in light of her very public and notorious escapades, however, she seems to embody many of the character traits of the Cathy Earnshaw we all know and love. This traits are such things as wildness and selfishness.

Christian Bale is a good choice for Heathcliff because of his ability to take on very dark characters. He would be able to embody the evil and twisted character of Heathcliff very well.

i think Keira would be better as Cathy because she’s such a great actress, however i think Lindsay’s portrayal would be a lot more interesting and it would be great for her to show what she can do. After all, she should be known for her talent as an actress and not her wild behaviour.
i heard something about Johnny Depp being involved in this film and George Clooney. Anyone else heard anything about this? i’d love them to be involved, they’re both gorgeous and incredibly gifted actors.

I was just wondering….are they slightly mental? After reading this incredibly well written book, the best piece of classical literature ever, I cannot believe they are going to choose between Keira Knightley and Lindsay Lohan. Keira Knightley has none of the fiesty or fiery qualities that Cathy does and Lindsay Lohan barely has a lick of sense. Neither could play Cathy and I’m fairly sure that Emily Bronte herself would be very disappointed in the choice of women to play this character. Someone like Madeleine Stowe would be fantastic as she showed herself to be in The Last of the Mohicans in 1992. Juliet Binoche did Cathy justice….why is everyone settling for Keira, who is always an actress for the classical stories (we need some variation please) or Lindsay, who is a future teeny bopper?

Ummm Belle – you’re forgetting one key fact….Catherine is supposed to be young. Neither Madeleine Stowe nor Juliet Binoche could play the part. Clearly you haven’t seen Kiera Knightley in anything. She is a great actress. I don’t see how anyone would even consider Lindsay for a serious role.

    Cathy: Keira Knightley
    Heathcliff: Oliver Goodwill

I don’t know about you guys, but I think Keira Knightley would be perfect for the part of Catherine Earnshaw. She was fantastic in “Pride And Prejudice”, and I think she would be wonderful in “Wuthering Heights”.

The entire time that I was reading the book, I pictured Heathcliff looking somewhat like Oliver Goodwill, and I’m not a “Wolfie” fanatic. He portrayed the role well in Evanescence’s music video.
I’m so excited! I can’t wait for the movie.

I think they gave the role to Natalie Portman. Might be a challenge for her to fill feisty shoes. Keira would do well. She definitely has what it takes.

But Lindsay? Come on. She is a walking hollywood disaster. She had her chance to grow up and earn respect of the audience and blew it with every temper tantrum and intentional media stunt. People would avoid the movie simply because the hollywood trash was in it.

I think that although Keira Knightly is a good actress, I can only ever think of her as a period actress and cannot think of any films set in a modern era where I went ‘Wow, she can act !’. Her lack of versatility would rulke her out for me.

Maybe ellen page of ‘Juno’ and ‘Hard candy’ fame ? She is young nad versatile and could play a rowdy Cathy, I think Gemma Arteton would also be quite matching. Kat Dennings of ‘Nick and Norah’s infinite playlist’ would be a fine match. All have dark hair as I imagine Cathy would have and could pull off her sharp attitude.

Jake Gyllenhaal, Christian Bale, Patrick Wilson, Gerrad Butler, Colin Farrell

I think that Keira Knighty is an amazing actress and would perfect fot the role of Cathy. Her performance in Pride and Predjudice just shows how perfect she is for a period role. Lindsay, I could see taking this role as well as Keira.

Though Knightly has proven herself as a classical actress, I think Lohan could pull this off. I have read the book multiple times, I’m very familiar with Cathy, Lohan already possesses some of cathy’s qualities, both in personality and looks. Cathy is supposed to be a ruddy, shortish, strong girl of the moors. not a skinny, colorless waif. She is also closer in age to the charactor, knightly is a bit too old for it I think. She’s more womanly than girlish. Lohan still has the selfish childishness needed for this role. as to the role of heathcliff, they should pick someone who looks black irish, bale has that look about him but he’s far too old, heathcliff is supposed to be the same age as cathy. Personally I think they should look to europe for a heathcliff.

ummm how about niether! lindsay is just a shit actor and keira just wouldnt suit the role of cathy, even though she has done alot of period films, all i see is annoying anorexic bitch! although she is a better actor, how about they just dont do another wuthering heights movie ok, the book is as good as it gets, dont wreck it people!!

That’s just wroong!!! If I had to choose I’d choose Keira but come oon there are millions of actresses, did they have to choose Lindsay??? They’re gonna ruin the movie! I’m sorry but she just doesn’t fit in that roll, Catherine should be done by someone else.

does anyone know when this wil come out or when their gonna choose the actress? this is my absolute favorite book and i’ve seen a few of the movies so far the 1992 one with juliette binoche and ralph fiennes was pretty good. personally lindsey lohan annoys the crap outta me and so does cathy earnshaw so if those are the choices i guess her cause i loved keira as elizabeth and i dont want that ruined if she plays cathy, let the crazier of the two have it

For the love! I dont even care for Aterton, far too elegant and so help me if they try and stick Kristen Stewart in the role I will e leading a march on Hollywood! I can think of half a dozen grocery store cashiers and waitresses whom Id cast over any of these girls. They say this one and that one but some real girl is going to fly right past them and they’ll be so worried about a big name they’ll miss someone perfect. sadly the young women in film today just don’t have skill of women in the past, id say my generation has no great female, though there are men who seem to exhibit promising talent.

Keira Knightley and Gerard Butler would be dynamite together as Cathy and Heathcliff. And if they’re true to the book, chemistry is so important. Butler has that handsome, charming quality, at the same time as he can be dark and cruel like Heathcliff is in the book. Christian Bale would also do Heathcliff justice. Keira definitely has the natural beauty of Cathy and the ability to portray her dual character. I can so see Keira and Gerard riding over the moors together. I can’t wait to see my favorite book on screen again!

Not sure about Kiera or Lindsay, but Tom Pelphrey IS Heathcliff. He is the only Heathcliff I can imagine. He could bring layers to the character, humor, sarcasm, rage, jealousy, power, tenderness, romance, fierceness, cruelty, all of it. And he looks EXACTLY like Heathcliff should look.

What do you think?
