Ke$ha’s Mom Says Star Was Ordered to Lose Weight
Ke$ha’s mother has bolstered reports that the pop star developed an eating disorder after being pressured to lose weight by her advisors, including hit-making superproducer Dr. Luke.
Pebe Sebert spoke with People magazine and RadarOnline this week about Ke$ha’s decision to seek treatment for bulimia, claiming the 26-year-old was under immense pressure by those around her to slim down. Sebert also confirmed what friends told TMZ earlier this month: Dr. Luke, real name Lukasz Sebastian Gottwald, was just one part of a fat-shaming machine that ultimately cracked Ke$ha’s notoriously free spirit.
“Dr. Luke had been telling her how she had to get in shape and lose weight and all this stuff. She was exercising and dieting and ultimately doing everything she could, but not getting thin fast enough. And that’s when she first became bulimic.”
“Dr. Luke told a friend of ours he thought she looked like a refrigerator on her latest video, and could she please try to control her weight. After she went on a 14-day juice cleanse, he said, ‘Thank God you finally got rid of the weight! We’ve all been talking about it!’ So she felt like she couldn’t trust anyone.”
Ke$ha was even advised to take drugs to suppress her appetite by a former associate, according to mom. Sebert told Radar:
“She had an advisor who told her he had a meeting with a record company and they said she better lose 15 pounds in the next 30 days. He told her he didn’t care if she shoved her hand down her throat or took illegal drugs, but she had to lose the weight. Everybody in the industry has thrown up! Ke$ha’s been in the bathroom with other celebrities throwing up.”
Ke$ha’s decided to seek help after having a breakdown right before Christmas during which the blonde beauty admitted she had been struggling with bulimia since 2009. She is currently being treated at the Timberline Knolls Center outside Chicago.
“Right before Christmas she had a breakdown, and called me from the gas station after she’d thrown up everything, and admitted how much she’d been doing it.”
In response to Ke$ha’s mom’s claims, Dr. Luke’s rep has released a statement that vehemently denies Sebert’s allegations of body-shaming.
“These statements and allegations concerning Dr. Luke are completely false. It is unfortunate that at a time Ke$ha is suffering immensely and trying to heal at a treatment center, her mother is taking this approach with the media. I give Ke$ha my utmost support and well wishes for a quick return to health.”
