Katy Perry’s “Roar” Screams Its Way Up Digital Charts
Katy Perry’s “Roar” has claimed the biggest digital song debut of 2013. The lead single off Perry’s forthcoming album, Prism, is expected to sell over 525,000 in its first week of release.
Prism, Katy’s first album since the hit 2010 disc Teenage Dream, will debut in October. The busty singer says the single and new album mark a new chapter in her life; after all, Katy’s gone through a divorce and several public breakups with on-again/off-again beau John Mayer since her last appearance on the charts.
“This new song is called ‘Roar.’ It’s a bit of a self-empowering type of song. I wrote it because I was sick of keeping all these feelings inside and not speaking up for myself, which caused a lot of resentment.”
