Newsflash: Katy Perry is a creep!

Katy Perry has threatened legal action against an Australian fashion designer who shares her name, demanding the woman remove her title from her clothing line — despite a difference in spelling.

Attorneys for the “I Kissed A Girl” hitmaker have served Katie Perry with a cease and desist letter. Katy’s legal team wants Katie to remove her birth name from her products because they believe consumers are being duped into thinking the American singer is linked to the line.

“I got such a huge shock. It really felt like I was being intimidated and bullied into signing everything away,” says Katie, who launched her own loungewear line in Australia two years ago.

“(The letter) asked me to give up the trademark, withdraw sale of my clothes, withdraw any advertising and any websites, and sign that I will not in the future use a similar trademark to Katy Perry. I pretty much burst into tears,” she explains.

“I love my business. I’m not going to give it away without a fight either. I’m not trying to become a singer. I’m not pretending to be her. This is my income. And it’s the livelihood of my contractors as well.”

How can you sue someone for using their own name?

It would be reasonable to require a disclaimer tagged to the clothes that it’s a different Katy Perry.

Otherwise, some consumers will be fooled, unintentionally.

That’s a good idea, Eric. It just seems so unfair to make this woman completely change the name of her label, especially since Katie Perry is her given name.

well does that mean that I can sue the British hag, Heather Mills for having my name and acting like she does? No. Katy (or Katie, Kati, Katey, or all the other ways of spelling it) is a very common name. Perry is a common surname. Get over it. You don’t have sole rights to the name Katy or Perry. This woman has every right to use her own name for her clothing line. Tell the latest one hit wonder to put on her big girl panties and deal with it.
