Katy Perry “Sesame Street” Ban Gets “SNL” Spoof
Katy Perry may be too hot for Sesame Street, but she’s the perfect fit for NBC’s Saturday Night Live — and we hear the singer’s headline-snatching ban from the iconic children’s television series will reportedly make its way to NBC late night this weekend.
Perry will perform two of her most recent hits — “California Gurls” and “Teenage Dream” — as Amy Poehler returns to host the 36th season premiere of SNL this weekend and series vet Seth Myers told The TODAY Show Friday that SNL writers are already putting the finishing touches on a skit that will poke fun at Katy’s “Elmo Situation!”
On Thursday, Sesame Street producers put the kibosh on a planned New Year’s Eve appearance by the pop singer after thousands of parents voiced public outrage over her cleavage-baring attire in the segment, which featured Elmo and Katy singing a toned-down version of her hit single “Hot N Cold,” with the latter clad in a sleeveless gold dress.
Parents of preschoolers — the show’s target audience — were incensed. Of course, Elmo didn’t seem to mind. On Friday, the eternally-red three-year-old told ABC’s Good Morning America that Perry’s welcome to come back and sing on his street anytime. (As long as she isn’t dressed like a streetwalker…)
“We’ll have another one. Elmo loves Ms. Katy and we had a good time. So we’ll have another play date.”
Hopefully, Katy will remember to wear a pullover next time!
Catch Katy and Amy on Saturday Night Live Sept. 25 @ 11:30 PM on NBC.
