Katy Perry Fragrance “Purr” Nov. 2010

The last thing the world needs is another celebrity scent: Needless to say, we’re getting one anyway.

This time, it’s card-carrying “California Gurl” Katy Perry who is stepping into the lab to create her own bottle concoction, set to invade nostrils everywhere this November.

In a bid to create “something unlike I’d smelled before,” the self-professed “product whore” joins the ranks of celebs like Jennifer Lopez, Britney Spears, Beyonce, and Kim Kardashian, who have masqueraded as perfumers.

“I have about 50 fragrances and I’m intrigued by the mystique scent has,” Perry told Women’s Wear Daily Thursday. “I saw a lot of my peers getting into this world, and, as with my music, I thought I could bring my touch to the category and make it competitive.”

The new scent, Purr, was inspired by Katy’s Catwoman stage costume and will be sold exclusively at Nordstrom.

“I’m a very lyrical-based person, and the whole ‘purr’ thing kept coming back — [the sound is in] perfume, perfect, even Perry if you say it a certain way. It just seemed logical. The hardest part was keeping it under wraps for a year [during the development process]. I kept wanting to tell someone!” says Katy, who describes Purr as “peach nectar, forbidden apple, with hints of green bamboo.”

The fragrance will come packaged in a cat-shaped bottle with jeweled eyes and is expected to retail for between $36 and $65.
