Katie Holmes “So You Think You Can Dance” VIDEO (Judy Garland “Get Happy” Tribute)
Katie Holmes performed a song/dance tribute to entertainment legend Judy Garland on Thursday night’s So You Think You Can Dance 100th Episode Special.

We can’t wait to hear your thoughts on the performance!!
Katie’s taped segment aired near the end of the show — she said her reason for doing the show was to introduce the new Dizzy Feet Foundation to the world. The charity, which she co-founded alongside SYTYCD judge Nigel Lythgoe, director Adam Shankman and Carrie Ann Inaba of Dancing With the Stars — is aimed at helping underprivileged youths become professional dancers. The group also provides scholarships to dancers, choreographers and dance teachers.
“I think it’s important to let kids experience music and dancing and singing and the arts and also sports,” she said.
“I want to thank Katie Holmes for working so hard on that routine,” Nigel said following Katie’s dance.

I enjoyed the perfomance though she didn’t dance a whole lot.. she was beautiful and can certainly sing :) It seems she really wanted to spotlight her dizzy feet charity and so I applaud her performance!

I think it was the most blatant self promotion under the guise of charity. How embarrassing was she? She didn’t dance, hardly, she didn’t sing (studio recorded) all she did was marry Tom Cruise.

Was nice of her to promote her charity, but I don’t think her dancing and singing were all that great. Like her better as an actress.

I thought the performance was mediocre at best. For those who enjoy watching live performances, Katie did not deliver. She is not a great dancer and certainly does not have a strong enough voice. Judy Garland must be rolling in her grave.

It was pretty sad. Lipsyncing and walking around and it was entirely pre-recorded. The audio team did their best to make it seem like she was actually in the studio, but if you paid attention, it was obvious she was not. If I wanted to watch very much “un-live” recordings of Katie Holmes prancing around I would have rented some old episodes of Dawson’s Creek.

It was fun….but just really over-hyped. It wasn’t even live.

I like katie…but this performance was lack-luster…too much hype…nothing delivered!

Wow I thought it was good since she doesn’t do this type of thing. She looked like she had fun it was for a good cause and I loved the old time vocals. If she did an album singing the big band stuff i would buy it! I do think there should have been a bit more dancing but when someone looks like they are having a good time it makes the performance

Wow, she did really good … Brittany Spears should try what she did … you know, singing live instead of lip syncing!!

Yup, pre-recorded and a big ball of fluff…but what did you expect? This is TV folks, sensationalism for the cause of pushing products (hats off to the contestants who put it all on the line every week).
Even Judy Garland herself used pre-recorded music for her TV shows and specials. This is all the more reason to get out and support LIVE theatre! That’s where the true magic waits.
-Cheers!

crap, crap, crap – prancing, pouting, and lip synching in a studio is an insult to all of the REAL dancers on the show. So you think you can dance, Katie? Maybe good enough for the middle school musical, but not nearly the performance quality we have come to expect from this show. Blatant self promotion.

The only good thing about her performance was she has good jazz hands and can pose very well. I could not judge her singing since it was pre-recorded, which means she most likely can’t sing a lick. Nice try, she should stick to being a wife and mother.
On July 24th 2009, J wrote:
That was pretty lackluster. What was all the build up about? If she was going to lip sync, they should have kept the entire jazz kicking and pout/posing on celluloid. Don’t bring that sad performance onto the same stage as these amazingly talented dancers. It only highlights Mrs. Cruise’s inadequacies.

Ok, Iagree with most of you. I really like the girl, and have followed her since she arrived to the world of entertainment, but last night was CRAP. 1. she should have been live
2. She was putting Dizzy Feet on the map last night, you think she could have danced. I’m sorry but that wasn’t dancing. It’s funny I have danced all my life, and a group of us were all talking about it; a girl in my dance group when she was like 9-10 did this exact same number for solo competion, as a tap number, and I will tell you she danced circles around Katie . I’m sure you can dance, and you DO HAVE an amazing voice, but what a shame you DIDN”T BRING IT to this stage, when it could have been AMAZING. Be a dancer, but please be ashamed to call what you did on SYTYCD last night Dancing. I still Love you Katie, but next time you Hype something give your audience your all; you’re a performer; show it.

What, She was lip syncing! Com’on she did ok nothing that an average person could not do as well. It was for a great cause, so I will let it go.
Maybe she should have asked an alien to perform with her, LOL. That would have made it memorable

Geez people , i would like to see all of you go up there and do what she did ( to promote a charity )
I think she did a fine job … there was nothing terrible about that

Katie hasn’t been trying to promote herself as a singer or dancer but previously as an actress so I assume she did this; 1) for charity and 2) probably to inject her into the present as a performer in general–to keep people talking about her in regards to “the arts” cuz she’s sat out the past few years as “Tom’s wife”.
I think she performed her routine well, she sang (even if prerecorded) a gazillion times better than other non-celebs who’ve been waxing pro-singer also prerecorded lately (Heidi Montag, Paris Hilton?)
I thought she was stunning.
The main problem here was if it was intended to appear live, they should have used a live edit look (hire a live editor next time; note to Katie’s people) rather than the chopped up feel of a music video just to use the shots they liked best. Basic editing 101; kill ur darlings.

Katie not bad, but if I had to pick something to see you in movies are for me, the voice is not great but theres alot of singers out there making money that can’t even sing, thank god for sound mixers. But she did it for a good cause and she did a good job, way to go.

That perfomance was terrible. She hardly danced and the singing was average. It was nice that she was promoting the charity but she could have just talked about it. Her performance made me appreciate the contestants who are truly talented dancers.
There was way too much hype about the performance which did not deliver.

OMG! all you who say this was bad obviously have no talent and do not know what it takes to perform. The singing was great and the dancing was perfect in following the choreography!! Katie is great the person you all should be bitching about is Tom Cruise!!

Wow. Sounds like a lot of people are just jealous with the comments I’ve been reading.
Katie looked wonderful. Sounded great. Not a stellar voice but on key & very pleasant for the song being sung. The dance steps were reminisant (Spelling??) of the Judy Garland era which is what the routine was all about.
Good job Katie.

Obviously, many of you haven’t seen the original 1950s version of Garland’s performance (she didn’t dance much either). Google it and take a look. Katie’s performance was far better than Garland’s (I found it pretty “lack lustre”). Katie nailed it with just as much talent, more style and awesome gams!!!! Great job, Katie!!!!
