The daytime crowd has a thing for Katie Couric: Monday marked the premiere of the newswoman’s new ABC talk show — and it looks like the venture enjoyed a strong start in the ratings. Katie drew 2.8% of TV homes, according to preliminary figures.
The distinction makes the freshman gabfest the highest-rated talk-show debut since Dr. Phil got its start in September 2002.
Needless to say, Couric’s killing her competition: Steve Harvey drew 1.5% of homes in his Sept. 4 debut; Survivor host Jeff Probst attracted just 1% of homes as CBS rolled out the red carpet for his show this week. At the bottom of the heap is ’90s talk show alum Ricki Lake, whose return to daytime averaged a lowly 0.8%.
