With newly surfaced footage of Michael Jackson’s fiery Pepsi commercial making headlines, Emmy-winning comedienne Kathy Griffin is revealing a surprising connection to the late King of Pop.

The fiery redhead was an audience extra in the 1984 ad.

“I remember everything about that moment — I was way in back of the crowd scene, and when it happened, we didn’t really know exactly what happened at the moment, and it’s really fascinating to watch that footage because you can tell that Michael doesn’t know for a minute, and being the consummate pro, he keeps dancing and stuff,” Kathy tells Entertainment Tonight’s Kevin Frazier.

“To see Michael Jackson come out with the glove and the sparkly outfit, and he was so thin, I have to admit it’s one of those moments that you look at him and go, ‘Is that really that person?’ And it was really exciting to see him.”

Otherwise, it was big day for Kathy; her My Life on The D-List was nominated for Outstanding Reality Program during Thursday’s Primetime Emmy Award announcements in Hollywood, and her TV special Kathy Griffin: She’ll Cut a Bitch has been nominated for Outstanding Variety, Music or Comedy Special. !
