Kate Upton has been revealed as the 2012 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit cover model.
The blonde bombshell unveiled her starring spot on the coveted cover of the Sports Bible’s annual swimsuit issue during Monday’s taping of Late Show with David Letterman.
Per tradition, a billboard featuring the cover image went up on Broadway, just across from the New York landmark the Late Show calls home: The Ed Sullivan Theater.
Upton was joined by a host of her fellow Sports Illustrated stunners — Julie Henderson, Jessica Gomes, Ariel Meredith, Alyssa Miller, Chrissy Teigen, Genevieve Morton, Izabel Goulart, Jessica Perez and Irina Shayk — as she presented the “Top 10 Reasons This Year’s Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue is the Best One Ever.”
Kate, 19, is a native of Michigan. She made her first Sports Illustrated appearance on the pages of last year’s annual issue, in which she was named “Rookie of the Year.”
These days she’s making headlines for a red-hot romance with New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez. (But you didn’t hear that from us.)
Upton succeeds a host of former S.I. covergals — including Tyra Banks, Bar Rafaeli and Brooklyn Decker. On Tuesday, she’ll swing by the show again to be interviewed Dave.
This year’s Swimsuit Issue will feature 18 models and six athletes. The issue will be read by an estimated 70 million adults.
In fact, about 1 in 3 U.S. adults read the annual issue, according to USA Today.
The double issue is now on sale vida tablet, mobile, at newsstands and on SI.com/Swimsuit.
