On The TODAY Show Thursday, correspondent Meredith Vieira spoke with Kate Gosselin, star of the TLC reality series Jon & Kate Plus 8, about the recent tabloid reports that her husband, Jon Gosselin, has been having an affair with 23-year-old third grade teacher Deanna Hummel.

The mother of eight told Meredith that despite video and photo footage — which show her husband in the company of the younger woman — she is “very hesitant” to believe that Jon would be unfaithful to her.

“Our kids are centrally in our focus, they always have been. They are very much loved, very well cared for…that will be how it’s going to be,” Kate said.

Jon, for his part, has vehemently denied claims that he is cheating on his wife.

So does Deanna, who told PEOPLE on Wednesday that her older brother — a convicted felon — sold the story to Us Weekly in exchange for a big payday.

She insists that she and Jon are only friends.

“My brother is making this all up,” Hummel told PEOPLE. “He has no credibility … I can’t even stomach the lies he’s saying about me.” “My brother is very shady,” she added. “He has no job. He has a criminal background. He was charged for drug distribution. He’s on probation right now.”

Jason Hummel, 28, claims he overheard his sister having sex with the married reality star.

“I’m so hurt that he put my occupation out there. He has put my job in jeopardy. I can’t take my kids to recess without worrying that people will come up and harass me and the other teachers. It’s not fair.”

In February, a group of Pennsylvania college coeds accused the TV pop of skirt-chasing behind Kate’s back. He was even alleged to have told the perky twentysomethings that he and Kate were in the middle of a divorce. Since this is the second time Jon has been accused of stepping out on his family, we’re not sure what to make of the most recent allegations.

She doesn’t look very happy to me. I think its interesting that she says “im very hesitant to believe”!! What does that mean?? I might believe or what. I’ve watched since the beginning, but have grown tired of her attitude and the way she talks to Jon. I have also noticed that the more famous she gets, the more attitude she has. Oh well, good luck to them. I just hope it does not hurt their children, they are innocent afterall.

I grew up in a small town. If a married man was to be seen out at 2 am with a girl half his age, while his wife was out of town, people in my small town would talk. The whole world just happens to be your small town when you’re famous. Did he actually cheat? The truth doesn’t matter. There are people who absolutely believe he did and will never think otherwise. The moral of the story is, don’t go out drinking with a 23 year old girl at 2 am when your wife is out of town. People will talk. THAT is what sells those magazines. It’s human nature.

Everyone is talking about how they would cheat if they were her husband but you know what, he chose that life, he knew who she was. Yes it may come off as attitude and bossy but she has EIGHT children to get in line with! She seems like a very very strong willing woman to me and alot of people, men in general, dont know how to deal with that type of women. I praise Kate for sitting in this interview and holding herself together. Jon and Kate I wish you the VERY best. And just remember the tabloids are wanting you to think this way, they are wanting you to believe them, that’s how they make their money. Just shows how much power the media has over some people. If I was going to peg something like that on one of my sisters, for instance, I’d say I walked in on something intimate. Catching someone in the throes of passion and being able to quickly duck out and escape (lol) to me is a lot less embarrassing and cringe worthy than having to hear them have sex. A split second image versus countless hours listening to the heavy breathing? Yeeeech. I’m inclined to believe him. If he was lying, he’d tell an easier lie that was less embarrassing.

Its none of our business!! Yes they may be in the eye of the public but its for one reason, THEIR KIDS. They have a show that shows us how raising 8 kids that are so young can be and what goes on off camera is none of our business. Look at yourselves, yeah people know your married but its noone’s business if you fight and about what, how often you have sex, ect..

I think if Jon is cheating, it`s probably because his wife is a bitch! Although, I do believe even Kate doesn`t deserve to be humiliated by a husband who cheats on her. I dont think the Jon was cheating on Kate for several reasons. I think he enjoys his life and the people that are in it. Even though Kate sets strict rules for her and her family, she has a reason to do it. So although Jon was caught with a couple of friends, I dont think that he was cheating on kate. I just have to say that I don’t think her doing this whole publicity thing is at all right. I read the People Magazine article too–what are her kids going to think when they read that? Both J & K need to realize that they’ve taken the reality TV star schtick too far. If they truly value their marriage and want their kids to grow up with some semblance of normalcy, they need to stop doing the show and writing books about their lives.
