The VMAs just went “Gay Fish” — Kanye West is reportedly set to perform at next month’s MTV Video Music Awards — nearly a year after disgracing the show by storming the stage and ruining Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech.
West has kept a low profile since receiving widespread criticism for interrupting the teen country star mid-speech to declare that her fellow nominee Beyonce should have won the prize for Best Female Video. Kanye — a noted fashionisto — tells New York’s Hot 97 DJ Angie Martinez that he spent the days following his now-infamous stagecrashing interning for Italian fashion house Fendi.
“After the MTV thing I moved to Japan for three weeks so I just didn’t have any paparazzi, then I ended up moving to Rome and I was interning at Fendi. Every day, going to work, walking to work, getting cappuccinos!”
West later apologized for his humiliating Young Taylor, but his words did little to redeem the hip-hopster in the eyes of many of Swift’s fans.
Perhaps a live performance of “Power” will do the trick?
On Tuesday, UsMagazine.com cited an unnamed source who claims that West will hit the stage to perform during the Sept. 12 program. Representatives for the rapper and MTV declined to comment.
