Justin Timberlake Rallies to Miley’s Defense
Call him controversial, but Justin Timberlake just doesn’t get all the pearl-clutching and shock and awe surrounding Miley Cyrus’ raunchy performance with Robin Thicke at Sunday’s MTV Video Music Awards.
In an interview with Fresh 102.7 FM’s Jim and Kim Tuesday, the “Suit & Tie” singer — a former Disney star himself — jumped to Miley’s defense. The performance, which displayed Miley’s twerking capabilities (or lack thereof) and crotch grabs prominently, “is not an uncommon thing” in the world of pop, Justin argued.
He even gave Miley kudos for the “really cool” bears that appeared throughout her rendition of “We Can’t Stop.”
“Listen, man, you know, it’s the VMAs. What did you guys expect? I like Miley. I like her a lot. I think, you know, she’s young. She’s letting everyone know that she’s growing up.I just think it’s the VMAs. It’s not like she did it at the GRAMMYs. Let her do her thing. You know?”
The pink bears were far from Justin’s favorite part of the show. The crooner cites the now viral photo of Will Smith and family gasping as the ultimate side-splitter. The image, which surfaced during the award show on Twitter, shows Will, wife Jada and their son and daughter Jaden and Willow gasping at a VMA performance. What has yet to be confirmed is whether it was in fact Miley’s or Lady Gaga’s.
Nonetheless, it gets J.T.’s vote.
“My favorite part of the Miley Cyrus performance is the Smith family reaction. I was late to the game on that. I was just shown that this morning, so it was fresh in my mind.”
