After 20 amazing seasons in the National Football league, Junior Seau, was found dead in his San Diego home today.
Seau’s storied career included seasons 1990-2002 with his hometown Chargers. He led them to their only Super Bowl appearance, was voted to a team-record 12 straight Pro Bowls and was an All-Pro six times.
According to multiple sources a 911 call was placed from his Oceanside home at 10:00 this morning. Seau appears to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Seau was found by a woman, who told police she was his girlfriend. The police are investigating the incident but appear to be treating it as a suicide.
The San Diego Chargers released a statement saying, “Everyone at the Chargers is in complete shock and disbelief right now…We ask everyone to stop what they’re doing and send their prayers to Junior and his family.”
Seau, just 43, leaves behind a daughter and two sons.
