Julia Louis-Dreyfus To Star In Remake Of Swedish Film ‘Force Majeure’
Julia Louis-Dreyfus has been rising in popularity ever since her role on Seinfeld and has now been cast as the star of a remake of a foreign film. Force Majeure was released as a Swedish film in 2014 and it is already being remade with the comedic star joining the initial cast.
She is primarily known for her work in comedies, which have certainly gained her the most attention, but this film will display the talents that she has a dramatic actor as well.
The film tells the story of a family on a ski holiday in the French Alps who find themselves staring down an avalanche during lunch one day. Following the aftermath, the family dynamic is shaken up as they attempt to survive together and the patriarch of the family, in particular, is questioned.
Julia Louis-Dreyfus is currently the star of HBO’s critically acclaimed and award-nominated comedy Veep. The show features an outstanding ensemble cast, but she still finds a way to be the star and has won an award for her role as Selina Meyer in the show.
She was last seen on the big screen in Enough Said, a film that blended comedy and drama well, and featured one of the last film roles for James Gandolfini. The film was released after he died and he even received an award nomination for it.
While the idea of a remake is generally frowned upon by the majority of film fans and critics, remaking a foreign film can sometimes work to a film’s advantage because it exposes the story to more people, and in some cases, may even get people to watch the original as well.
Aside from Julia Louis-Dreyfus, no director or screenwriter have been attached to the English remake of Force Majeure yet. Prior to the film’s release, you may want to check out the original since It was nominated for Best Foreign Film just months ago at the 2015 Academy Awards and won the Un Certain Regard Jury Prize at the Canne Film Festival last year.
