The View is losing its resident wisecracker: After 16 and a half years on The View, Joy Behar is departing at the end of the season. An original Viewer, Behar is one of five co-hosts currently on the show, joining series creator Barbara Walters, Oscar winner Whoopi Goldberg, conservative pundit Elisabeth Hasselbeck and comedian Sherri Shepherd.
Behar recently notified ABC suits that she is not interested in renewing her contract, which ends in August. Instead, Joy wants to turn her focus to other projects, in particular launching a talker of her own. She previously starred in the now defunct CNN chatfest The Joy Behar Show.
The network said in a statement to Deadline Hollywood Thursday:
“Joy Behar has been instrumental in the success of The View from the very beginning. We wish her all the best in this next chapter and are thrilled that we have her for the remainder of the season.”
