Jordyn Wieber’s mom reacts to Silly Olympic Rule

1

The reigning World Champion, Jordyn Wieber, broke down on Sunday at the end of team qualifying.

Wieber, who was edged out by teammates Gabby Douglas and Alexandra Raisman, to compete in the All Around Finals. Thanks to a new rule change, each country is only allowed to send their top 2 athletes to the All-Around, regardless of overall score.

At the end of the qualifying round, Jordyn found herself in third place on the US Team, unable to compete for the All Around championship. Wieber will still be able to compete for an individual medal and of course with the team medal but not for the All-Around Champion.

“Only 2 athletes per country, regardless of score, can go to the AA finals. To me, that makes no sense.. Shouldn’t the AA finals be the top 8 athletes, period???? It doesn’t make sense yet. It doesn’t matter — it is what it is….,” Rita Wieber, Jordyn’s mother wrote on her personal blog following Sunday’s disappointing results.
