Jordin Sparks Throat Injury: Jordin Sparks Acute Vocal Cord Hemorrhage

Jordin Sparks may never sing again. The eighteen year old American Idol champion has shelved a series of shows after being diagnosed with a career-threatening throat injury called “an acute vocal cord hemorrhage.”
Fans were calling for prays for Jordin via American Idol’s official website on Sunday. The young star has been forced to cancel her Saturday night performance on Alicia Keys’ “As I Am” Tour, for which she is the opening act.
“Because of the risk of permanent vocal cord damage, Sparks has been ordered to strict vocal rest and will not be able to perform anywhere until her condition improves,” a spokesman for the arena at Penn State, where Jordin had been scheduled to perform this weekend, told the New York Post.
A medical Web site for the University of Pennsylvania described bleeding in the vocal cord as “a serious problem . . . caused when a person who has laryngitis uses their voice at the height of infection.
“Some severe cases may require laser microsurgery.”
The description of the problem as “acute” also indicates the injury may be severe.
