Jon and Kate have taken a vow of silence. The estranged couple have decided to stop discussing their family’s problems with the media a week after filing divorce papers.

Isn’t it a little late for that now?

In a statement posted on TLC’s website Tuesday, the stars of television’s Jon & Kate Plus 8 said they are no longer speaking to the media.

“During this very difficult time we will be working to focus solely on the needs of our family. This includes no longer commenting publicly or reacting to media stories and speculation,” the statement noted.

“Our goal is to do the very best for our children and that will be done as privately as possible. We appreciate the understanding, support and well wishes from so many. Thank you.”

Following the couple’s divorce announcement, TLC announced that the show would be going on hiatus until August 3 in order to give the family “time off to regroup.”
