Jon Gosselin Blames Reality TV for Kids’ “Developmental Issues”
In a new interview with Oprah Winfrey, former Jon & Kate Plus 8 star Jon Gosselin blames the one-time hit reality show for ruining his marriage, wrecking his reputation and leaving his brood of eight with on-going developmental issues.
In a Sunday evening appearance on OWN’s Where Are They Now?, Jon pulled no punches in recounting how the instant fame brought on by the TLC series fractured his relationship with now ex-wife Kate Gosselin and continues to impact the former couple’s children. After his messy split from Kate, Jon, 36, became a fixture in the tabloids and admits he’s still stinging from “false” accusations that his infidelity was the reason for the breakup.
Yet, it’s the lingering effects the show had on his children that he regrets the most.
“I saw my kids not growing up normally, like I grew up, and having community. Yes, they got to travel the world, and yes, they got these fabulous things, and yes, they have trust funds, and they’re taken care of educationally. Great. But developmentally, they have problems with their peers, and they have problems with talking to other people, and they have problems with wants and needs and manners and morals and what’s right and what’s wrong. I think more so than someone who grows up off TV.”
Jon made headlines last summer when it was revealed that he had been making a living working as a waiter in rural Pennsylvania.
