Johnny Depp The Headwear Association “Hat Person Of The Year”

Johnny Depp, PEOPLE Magazine’s former “Sexiest Man Alive” is cracking open the bubbly after being bestowing with another very distinct honor. On Tuesday, The Headwear Association, “a 103-year-old organization devoted to promoting headwear and hats,” has tapped the Pirates of the Caribbean actor as its 2011 Hat Person of the Year.

Depp snagged 38 percent of the vote in an online poll of “Favorite Hat-Wearing Celebrities,” beating Gwen Stefani (17 percent), Hugh Jackman (16 percent), Justin Timberlake (13 percent), Kate Hudson (9 percent) and Nicole Richie (7 percent).

Anyone else surprised that now of the guys from Mad Men made the cut?

According to a press release: “Depp is rarely seen without a hat and favors wide brim fedoras. The shape is enjoying quite a heyday right now; similar styles can be seen on Mad Men, The Adjustment Bureau and wider brimmed fedoras were seen on the Paris, Milan and New York runways.”

Last year’s Hat Person? Why, Brad Pitt, of course. The Headwear Association is hosting a Free Fedora Giveaway on its Facebook page. Add them as a “Friend” to get in on the action.
