John Mayer’s long-rumored variety show will debut on the small screen later this year, CBS Entertainment President Nina Tassler announced at the network’s TCA on Wednesday.

The network does not have an air date for the proposed show, but plans to start shooting sometime this season.

“We’re just going to shoot the pilot… and make the decision with that,” Nina explained. “It’s a pilot special for a series.”

“We didn’t reach out to him. It was his idea,” she said. “He loves it and he’s a really funny guy. He’s really smart… [he] has a great sense of humor about himself.”
