Jessica Simpson’s friendship with former flame John Mayer is being blamed for her split from longtime boyfriend Tony Romo. According to pals, she got her marching orders after the football star discovered sexy texts from the guitar-strumming rocker on her cellphone and learned Jessica joined John for lunch in Hollywood last month.

An insider told RadarOnline.com: “They were hanging out and he picked up her phone and she got defensive about it. Tony found messages from John and went ballistic. Tony dumped her right then. He walked out and that was it.”

Tony and Jessica had been dating since 2007.
