Oh dear, what’s happened to Beatles legend John Lennon’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame?

The brass monument to the “Imagine” hitmaker has been reported missing from the sidewalk where it was placed in tribute in 1988. The asphalt where the tribute once laid is now marked by just an “empty outline of a star”, which has been covered up with a plastic bag and tape, according to BeatleTweets.com.

The mysterious disappearance of John’s star has promoted speculation that the plaque may have been stolen, damaged, or removed for repairs — but still no official confirmation from the folks out in Tinseltown.

The Beatles have their own group star on the Walk of Fame, but Lennon was the first of the Fab Four to have his own solo tribute. Bandmate George Harrison received a posthumous honor in April, while Ringo Starr’s star dedication is scheduled for February.

Earlier this month. Lennon fans marked the 30th anniversary of the musician’s murder outside his home in New York City.
