“E! is also home to the Kardashians, who believe it or not, are Republican. And I know that because they’re always trying to screw black people.”
Joel McHale was the emcee at Saturday night’s 100th Annual White House Correspondents’ Dinner. The stars — think Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Lupita Nyong’o and Sofia Vergara — descended on Washington for a night of pricey eats and hobnobbing with political movers and shakers.
It was the Community star, however, who made the most headlines. McHale didn’t hold back as he unleashed zingy one-liners and side-splitting humor about everyone from the Kardashians to Jessica Simpson. Let’s just say Joel took some bold strides with his joke-writing — and not all of them landed well with the suits and ties that filled the audience.
Naturally, after the scandal that was “Bridge-Gate,” New Jersey Governor Chris Christie found himself a frequent punchline.
“I promise that tonight will be amusing and over quickly. Just like Chris Christie’s presidential bid.”
Some of Joel’s most controversial digs:
-On President Obama: “I’m a big fan of President Obama. I think he’s one of the all-time great presidents…definitely in the Top 50. Please explain that to Jessica Simpson. You’re right, that was low.”
-On Toronto Mayor Rob Ford: “Between Rob Ford, Justin Bieber and Ted Cruz, you just want to tell Canada, ‘Hey, hey, relax. We already have a Florida.’ ”
-On Hillary Clinton’s Potential Run for the White House: “Hillary Clinton has a lot going for her as a candidate. She has experience, she’s a natural leader. And as our first female president, we could pay her 30% less! That’s a saving this country could use. Who’s with me??”
-On Chelsea Clinton’s Pregnancy: “In nine months we will officially have a sequel to Bad Grandpa.”
