Here’s a couple screenshots to prove we didn’t pull the premature reports of his death out of our asses:
People.com was last to edit their story to retract and continued sourcing CBS, although CBS had retracted and apologized for reporting Paterno had died. People stuck to their story and apparently updated only after Paterno actually died this morning. TMZ did not run any story about JoePa’s death until it was confirmed by the family.
Former Penn State head football coach Joe Paterno has passed away according to a CBS Sports report. Earlier in the day Paterno’s wife called family members to the hospital to say goodbye.
In the last few days, Paterno’s health declined severely due to complications from lung cancer treatments. He was reportedly taken off a respirator earlier today.
Paterno was famously fired by Penn State for not taking swift action when he was informed of alleged child sexual abuse on campus. Before he was fired, he coached his 409th career win, making him the winningest coach in major college football.
RIP, Joe Pa.
