FOX has announced that American Idol Season 8 contestant Joanna Pacitti has been disqualified from this year’s competition.

“It has been determined that Joanna Pacitti is ineligible to continue in the competition,” the network announced in a statement last Wednesday.

During Idol’s pre-taped “Final Judgement” episode, which aired Wednesday, Joanna was shown advancing into the competition’s semifinals. According to Reality TV World, Felicia Barton, a 26-year-old wife and mother from Virginia Beach, VA, will replace Pacitti in the season’s Top 36 semifinals.

Fox’s officials have not specified why the 23-year-old Philadelphia native was deemed ineligible, but Joanna created controversy earlier this season when it was revealed that she has already recorded and released several songs and been dropped from a major record label after her debut album failed to make an impression on the charts.

There was also a serious conflict of interest. According to last week’s Star Magazine, Joanna resided in the same apartment building as 19 Entertainment executives Roger Widnynowski and Michelle Young and even once called the Widnyowski her “best friend.”
