Jimmy Fallon Primetime Emmy Awards 2010 Host
Funny guy Jimmy Fallon — one-third of NBC’s weekly late-nite lineup — will host the 62nd annual Primetime Emmy Awards on August 29, The Peacock Network announced on Tuesday.
It will be the first time Fallon has hosted the ceremony — but he has plenty of experience with live TV from his days as a series side-splitter on Saturday Night Live. Fallon also previously hosted the MTV Movie Awards in 2001 and the MTV Video Music Awards in 2002.
“Hosting the Emmys has been a dream of mine ever since they told me I was doing it,” Fallon joked after the announcement made headlines this morning. He follows in the footsteps of beloved actor Neil Patrick Harris, who won rave reviews when he hosted the telecast last summer.
“Jimmy was the natural choice as one of the most promising and likable young entertainers who will now have the chance to display his many talents on television’s biggest night,” said NBC Universal executive vice president Paul Telegdy. “His proven skills as a comedian and host — as well as his openness to new ideas — will fully engage audiences and ultimately deliver a lively Emmy telecast.”
Emmys executive producer Don Mischer adds: “Jimmy has many talents. He can sing, he can dance, he does impersonations, and he does it gracefully and with ease. I think he’ll make a terrific host and we are really looking forward to working with him.”
Nominees will be announced on July 8.
