I agree with him that covering up your issues with anti depressants for an extended period of time may not be healthy, it may be discouraging to your recovery by not encouraging you to get to the root issues. However, some people have those ups and downs while having no real "reason" for it, and thats when drug intervention may not only be necessary, but the only recourse. If you're sad and you have no reason to be, there may be something beyond your control. If he can boost his seratonin naturally, and that works for him, great. However, one should always be careful when condemning psychiatric therapy.
