We all know that not every song sung by an artist is actually written by them. A hit song brings a lot of fame and fortune for the singer, but what about the song writer?
The 26-year-old Brit singer, Jessie J, wrote one of Miley Cyrus’ hit songs Party In The USA back in 2009. She reveals to Glamour UK magazine that the song was quite lucrative.
“You’ve got to write songs, that’s where the money is, being an artist. Party In The USA paid my rent for like, three years. Actually it was way longer than that. That’s where I get most of my money. I write songs. I’m a singer. I love endorsements and stuff, but that’s all added on.”
Jessie revealed in 2011 that she pitched the anthem to her label- who decided it fitted the then Disney star better. She explained, “You know what’s more weird though, is that you’re not actually there when they record it.”
“I recorded Party In The USA, played it for the the label but they didn’t think it was right for me. So they pitched it and two weeks later it was number one in six countires.”
This year, Jessie J has made quite a name for herself, with her hit song Bang Bang, featuring Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj. “All women are saying, singing and spreaking about the same thing, but in their own way– love, heartbreak, reassurance, sexiness, belief, how we feel. We’re all singing about it and doing it.”
