They say no good deed goes unpunished. Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo has become a living testament to that age old adage after a pity call to ex-girlfriend Jessica Simpson put the eternally-single star back on his scent like a bloodhound.

Tony reportedly called to give Jessica his condolences after The singer-actress beloved maltipoo, Daisy, met a tragic demise in the belly of a coyote, but now the NFL hunk wishes he’d have kept his flytrap shut. Jessica, who split from Romo in July, simply refuses to leave Tony alone since receiving the QB’s sympathy call last month, according to a report featured in the Nov. 9 issue of The National Enquirer. It’s hardly suprising. Jessica was, after all, accused of harassing crooner John Mayer shortly after their split in 2007, but tabloid tattles insists she’s back to her old tricks — and boy is she burning up Tony’s daytime minutes.

One Enquirer snitch says: “Tony’s call opened the floodgates, and Jess has gotten downright scary since, phoning him all the time and leaving messages. When she can’t reach him, she calls teammates to ask where he is, and Tony’s very embarrassed. He’s getting ribbed in the locker room by all the guys, who ask tongue-in-cheek: ‘You’re not gonna return that poor girl’s calls?’”
