Jessica Simpson PETA Spat Sparked By Performance At SeaWorld
Jessica Simpson is the newest celebrity target of the bleeding heart animal rights workers of People For The Ethical Treatment of Animals, thanks to pop star’s performance at SeaWorld in San Diego on Saturday afternoon.
On Friday, PETA special projects manager Michelle Cho served J.S. with a stern letter asking the crooner to consider pulling the concert in protest about the dolphins kept in captivity at the popular tourist attraction.
“As someone who is used to living in a fishbowl and having the public weigh in on her every move, you might like to give some thought to the animals who are forced to be ‘on display’ their entire lives,” Cho wrote in the letter obtained by WENN.
“Imagine being forced to do stupid tricks and swim endless circles in a bathtub. Life for whales, dolphins, polar bears, and fish who live in tanks and cages is like a bad reality show that plays 24/7. There are no commercial breaks, and the show is never cancelled,” she continued.
“In 2004, the stress of performing at SeaWorld proved to be too much for one orca (whale) named Ky. After becoming agitated during a show, Ky attacked and repeatedly slammed his trainer underwater as a packed crowd looked on in horror.”
In conclusion, Cho added, “SeaWorld, which owns most of the captive orcas and dolphins in the U.S., has one of the worst animal-care records in the country. Countless animals have lived and died in misery in these marine theme park. We’re asking you to support the dolphins. Please reconsider your decision to perform at SeaWorld and promise not to appear at venues that exploit animals in the future.”

Yeah, well, when most of the animals live far beyond their life expectancy in the wild it is difficult to complain. I’ve been to some of the Sea World parks several times and never saw anything bordering on abusive behavior. In fact, I’ve seen sea lions within 300 feet of a herd of Orca, and never heard of one of them being hunted. Of course, I’ve never seen Orca navigating on asphalt, so that might explain a lot.
PETA is one of those misguided groups of people who had a good idea and but are horrible at logically presenting their arguments and even worse at picking their targets. You know, if I were a singer whose targeted demographic was a bunch of guys and chicks who wear leather boots and belts, wear a feather in their hatband, and who more than likely while growing up raised at least one animal to show at a county fair which later became part of a lucky bidder’s meal, I don’t think I’d worry about a PETA’s endorsement or complaints. Go Jessica!
