After some speculation and hints that it would be her last season, Jessica Lange has confirmed that she will be leaving the cast of FX’s popular horror show American Horror Story.

At the TV conference Paleyfest, currently going on, a number of details have been revealed about the future of certain shows, and American Horror Story is of course among the pack. Last year, the setting was revealed, while Lange’s departure could also drastically alter the show, as she is by far the biggest star to appear on the show.

In addition to Jessica Lange, some of the cast members that have appeared throughout the series include Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Frances Conroy, Lily Rabe, and Kathy Bates. Each season has featured a different setting, and primarily a different cast, although some actors, such as Lange have appeared in multiple seasons.

Jessica Lange won a Golden Globe for her role on the show following the show’s first season in 2012, and she has been nominated ever since, although she has not picked up a second award. However, she did pick up an Emmy in 2014, along with co-star James Cromwell, while Frances Conroy, Angela Bassett, and Sarah Paulson were all nominated for the Coven setting of the show.

While speaking to the audience at a panel at Paleyfest, Lange said “I’m done. We’ve had a great run here. I have absolutely loved doing these four characters that I’ve had the opportunity to play, and in all madness, I love the writers and Ryan and the insanity of shooting it.”

American Horror story was created by Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk. In addition to the horror series, the pair are responsible for Glee, and the upcoming horror comedy Scream Queens, with Lea Michelle set to star.

While working on American Horror Story, Jessica Lange appeared in the films In Secret, The Vow, and The Gambler. She will be seen next in Wild Oats, also starring Demi Moore and Shirley MacLaine.
