Uh-oh! Did you catch Jesse McCartney’s National Anthem snafu NASCAR’s Pepsi 500 over the weekend? The former teen heartthrob was performing “The Star-Spangled Banner” at Sunday’s race at the Auto Club Speedway, in Fontana, California when he forgot an entire line of the nation’s most beloved song!

Poor Jesse. The star has chalked the humiliating ordeal up to a bad case of nerves from performing in front of such a large crowd.

“Here At the Nascar race !So much fun! Can’t believe I forgot the words to the Anthem! I’ve performed it 100 times. Bad Nerves today I guess….” Jesse wrote in a post on his Twitter page right after the performance.

BTW, Jimmie Johnson was the victor in yesterday’s race.

Icon Aretha Franklin forgot the words as have others. Barbara Streisand has such a case of the nerves that she uses a teleprompter for ALL her songs; ones she’s sung for decades. Frank Sinatra used one too. Who cares? Jesse has an awesome voice and did the song justice; ending very strong! It is a hard song to sing with verses written a long time ago. Like trying to sing Shakespere. This young man gives of himself and is from a strong family. It’s actually nice to know that a performer can still get nerves and isn’t just phoning in performances. I am a NASCAR fan and saw it. No biggie. I actually got a laugh when the camera scanned Juan Pablo Montoya and there was this dead-pan expression.
