Say arrivederci to GTL: The MTV reality soap that invited audiences into the vodka-soaked lives of a group of self-professed guidos and guidettes will end after its upcoming sixth season.
Production on Jersey Shore has ended, the network said Thursday. The once hit show about a group of party hearty twentysometings living it up at a New Jersey beach house and traveling to Italy has been a ratings hit for MTV since its debut in 2009.
No reason was given for the cancellation, but some of the show’s stars have publicly expressed their wishes to settle down and/or sober up. After all, Snooki gave birth to her first child over the weekend.
MTV did, however, renew its Shore spinoff Snooki and JWoww for a second season.
Snooki wrote: “Yes, sadly it’s true. This upcoming season of Jersey Shore will be our last. But it was fricken INSANE. I will always love my roomies!”
Pauly chimed in: “I Must Say, Sad To See It Go, But Am So Blessed To Have Been Apart Of This !!!!#TeamDJPaulyD Lives On (sic).”
Castmates Sammi Giancola and Deena Cortese also paid their respect to the show and insisted they will miss their fellow stars.
“It’s been one hell of a ride but this is just the beginning. Thank you all for your love & support throughout the seasons!! These memories will never be forgotten!! (sic),” Sammi tweeted.
“It really just hit me now this summer was the last time I’ll be filming with my roomies we all share something incredible thnx to you guys (sic),” Deena wrote.
The sixth and final season of Jersey Shore premieres Oct. 4 at 10 p.m. ET/PT.
