Congratulations to Jennifer Lopez. She’s just been tapped.
Tapped, that is, to receive the annual Icon Award at this month’s Billboard Music Awards. The event, set for May 18 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, will be a big night for the Fiat spokesmodel: JLo will perform her World Cup duet with “Tiber” hit-maker Pitbull and debut her new single, “First Love.”
The former Fly Girl first rose to pop culture prominence with her starring role as slain Tejano queen Selena. In 1998, the fleet-footed Jennifer exploded onto the music scene with her platinum-selling debut album, On the 6. Lopez is presently preparing for the release of A.K.A., her 10th album.
Jennifer’s credentials make her shoo-in for the prestigious Icon prize, Billboard magazine producer Larry Klein said in a statement Monday.
“Jennifer Lopez is one of the most iconic performers of her generation. We are thrilled to honor her historic career with the 2014 Icon Award and will be on the edge of our seats lik” everyone else when she takes the stage.”
