Before she was “Jenny from the Block,” American Idol’s Jennifer Lopez was a backup dancer for New Kids on the Block!

The diva blushed with embarrassment on The Tonight Show this week when Jay Leno dug up footage of her first professional dancing gig — as a backing hoofer for New Kids on the Block at the 1991 American Music Awards. The future Fly Girl was 22 at the time and had yet to find the fame that would envelope her following her lead role in the 1997 biopic Selena.

“I got this job dancing for them on the American Music Awards and it was a big deal…That was a long time ago…”
