Jennifer Hudson collected the first major award at Sunday night’s 51st Annual Grammy Awards, taking home the trophy for Best R&B Album for her self-titled debut.

“Thank God, who brought me through,” the 27-year-old Oscar winner said after accepting the trophy from R&B legend Whitney Houston. “I’d like to thank my family in heaven – and those who are here today.”
