Jay Z Takes Public Transportation to London Concert
He may be one-half of one of the world’s wealthiest couples, by Brooklyn native Jay Z hasn’t forgotten his turnstile-hopping roots. Patrons of London’s subway system, The Tube, were surprised to see the mega-star rapper on the train en route to his concert at the city’s 02 Arena.
Accompanied by an entourage of pals that included Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, producer Timbaland, manager Ty Ty and Atlanta Records exec Michael Kyser, Hov was all smiles as he sat on the Jubilee train.
No private cars for these cool kids…
Naturally, it didn’t take long for stunned commuters to realize who they were sharing oxygen with. Many quickly tweeted their surprise:
One traveler wrote:
“Jay Z gets on a tube to his own concert LOOOL about 500 ppl just ran after him.”
Fan Jamie Robb tweeted a photo after meeting the rapper, saying:
“What a riot… Just met Jay Z on the tube in London.”
Another patron, Elias, tweeted his surprise as well:
“Coming off the tube and I see Jay Z casually walking up the next escalator next to me… EVERYONE GOES NUTS!! WTF???!”
It’s no secret that Jay Z likes to take the subway to his performances. Last year, he rode the New York City subway to his final gig at Brooklyn’s Barclay Centre, where he made friends with an elderly woman called Ellen. Needless to say, Ellen hadn’t the slightest idea who she’d been rubbing elbows with.
