Beyoncé and Jay-Z made it official on Friday. Hip-hop’s royal couple were married in a private ceremony at Jay’s New York City loft on April 4th, a friend of the couple tells PEOPLE.

“It happened earlier this evening. Jay wanted it to be a really private affair – close friends and family.”
