Jane Lynch — who plays tough-as-nails cheerleading coach Sue Sylvester on TV’s Glee — will make her Broadway debut playing Miss Hannigan in the Great White Way’s revival of the 1977 musical Annie, show producers said Wednesday.

The Emmy Award-winning actress will take over the role of the mean-spirited orphanage headmistress starting May 16. The Hannigan role was originally made famous by funnylady Carol Burnett in the 1982 movie musical. Lynch’s Annie eight week run will wrap July 14.

Jane sounds pretty stocked about hitting the stage:

“Some may say I know a thing or two about playing intimidating authority figures. So I am excited and honored to be making my Broadway debut with the wonderful Annie company at the Palace Theatre and joining the pantheon of women who have taken on the great and irresistible role of wicked Miss Hannigan.”
