Jackson Browne John McCain Lawsuit: Browne Sues McCain “Running On Empty” Copyright Infringement
Political rocker Jackson Browne has filed a lawsuit protesting Republican presidential candidate John McCain’s use of his 1977 song, “Running On Empty,” in a campaign ad bashing Barack Obama.
In a suit filed on August 14, Browne blasts McCain for violating copyright laws as well as false association or endorsement, because he claims the use of his song confuses the public into thinking the “Somebody’s Baby” endorses or sponsors McCain.
“Browne sponsors and endorses McCain; a false association that directly conflicts with the political and social values that Browne has espoused and supported throughout his career. Throughout Browne’s career, he has closely associated himself with liberal causes and Democratic candidates.”
