It’s Official: Britney Spears, Demi Lovato Join “The X Factor”

It’s official: It looks like the Goss Gawkers were on to something. On Monday, Fox confirmed that pop princess Britney Spears and sometimes troubled former Disney kid Demi Lovato will be joining Simon Cowell and L.A. Reid on the upcoming second season of the The X Factor.

Tough talkin’ show runner Simon Cowell tweeted a pic of the new judging panel, which was dismantled as part of a production overhaul in January. The shakeup saw pundits Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger sent packing along with host Steve Jones.

Cowell seemed more optimistic about Factor’s future as he wrote:

“Can’t believe it’s finally happened. Very exciting! @thexfactorusa #xfactor #SimonBritneyDemiLa”

Britney added:

“I couldn’t be more excited to join The X Factor judging panel. I’m a huge fan of the show and now I get to be a part of the action. Simon and L.A. better watch out!”

Meanwhile, Camp Rock alum Demi made it no secret how excited she is to be working with her fellow judges:

“I’m so thrilled to join this legendary group of judges on The X Factor. To be able to spend each week with Simon, L.A. and Britney watching the best that America has to offer is truly a dream come true.”

Brit will reportedly receive a whopping $15 million for the season, which surpasses the blockbuster $12 million Jennifer Lopez pocketed during her first season of American Idol. Spears even notched a higher salary than Christina Aguilera nabs for her work on NBC’s The Voice.

The girls edged out powerhouse vocalists, like Mariah Carey, Miley Cyrus, and LeAnn Rimes, for the gig.

But of course, not everyone is as confident. Just ask Howard Stern.

The shock jock and newly-minated America’s Got Talent judge voiced some harsh opinions regarding Britney’s signing on as a judge for the rival reality talent show. He cracked last week:

“I think it’s a wonderful decision. Britney still thinks the earth is flat. I can’t imagine…I think we’re going to tune in to see her, to see if she can function through the thing. As far as any real criticism, I think Simon and L.A. Reid will do that. I think Britney will sit there and eat a lollipop and wear a sexy outfit. I’ll tune in to see what kind of train wreck she is, absolutely.”

Think Howard’s got a point? Are you excited to check out Britney and Demi on The X Factor?
