Could Tobias Harris really be the most underrated free agent in the NBA? While most people might see that and think it is some kind of weird joke, it can be argued that he is among a new type of small forward and playing in a different way, making him a unique player to target in free agency.
While there is no way that he will be competing for league MVP or listed among the top players in the league, he has proven over his short NBA career that he can contend with and guard the best players around.
He is a small forward playing for the Orlando Magic in his third year from Tennessee and has been averaging the type of statistics that only a handful of NBA players have been able to do at his age, believe it or not.
Tobias Harris, at age 22, averaged 17 points and 6 rebounds, while also shooting 35% from behind the arc over the course of the 2014-2015 season, something that only Kevin Durant, Lebron James, and Chris Bosh were able to do at the same time.
The case can be made for him being the most underrated free agent in this infographic from Nowsourcing, which also refers to him as the NBA’s best kept secret. As the graphic shows, he seems to be able to do it all, and at 6’9 and 235 pounds, he is big for his position, helping him at the defensive end as well.
According to the infographic, there is a shift in the game of basketball that Harris is a part of, being referred to, not as a typical small forward, but a new idea of the versatile forward. Of course, he is not the only one who achieves these types of stats, but while the forward position used to be simply about inside scoring and rebounding, now perimeter shooting is also key.

Tobias Harris is being utilized in a new era of the NBA that will focus more on statistics and a term called player efficiency rating, rather than just bringing in stars for their scoring power. As arguably the most underrated free agent in the league, he could end up anywhere by the start of the 2015-2016 season.
