Iron Mike Tyson Brings the “Undisputed Truth” to Broadway
Iron Mike Tyson is ready for his closeup. The boxing great has been tapped to star in an autobiographical one-man show set to open at Broadway’s Longacre Theater next month.
Mike Tyson: Undisputed Truth, directed by lensman Spike Lee, will chronicle Tyson’s journey from the gritty streets of Brooklyn to the youngest undisputed heavyweight champion in boxing history. Undisputed Truth, which began as a one-man show in Las Vegas, will mark the Broadway debuts of Tyson and Lee — whose directing credits include Do the Right Thing, Jungle Fever and Inside Man.
In a statement Monday, Tyson said:
“It is an honor to work with Spike Lee. I have always admired his work. Sharing the highlights and lowlights of my life with New York is especially important to me as I was born and raised in Brooklyn. I am thrilled to bring the story of Undisputed Truth to Broadway.”
“It’s my honor to be making our Broadway debut together. Brooklyn to Broadway.”
The show will begin a limited engagement July 31 and will run through Aug. 5.
