“Iron Man” #1 Weekend Box Office $100.8 Million

Iron Man sailed to the top of the box office this weekend. Hollywood first summer blockbuster of the year scored the best opening of 2008 thus far, earning $100.8 million.

Iron Man stars Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark, a billionaire industrialist and genius inventor whose captivity by insurgents motivates him to build a suit of armor to escape to protect the world as Iron Man.

Patrick Dempsey’s romantic comedy, Made of Honor, also known as My Best Friend’s Wedding x 2, opened with $15.5 million. The Grey’s Anatomy star plays a serial dater who decides to settle down just as his best friend decides to marry another man.

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler’s comedy, Baby Mama, which opened in first place last week dropped to third, taking in $10.3 million.

8. “Prom Night,” $2.5 million

9. “21,” $2.1 million

10. “88 Minutes,” $1.6 million
